This is a day-long event from 9am-4pm PDT. Registration closes Wednesday, October 1 at 11:55pm.

Navigating the changing GenAI landscape can feel overwhelming. But don’t panic! KQED Education has resources, guidelines, and the media literacy know-how to help make sense of GenAI tools for your classroom. 

Join us October 4 at KQED headquarters for a professional development day to dig deep and explore practical strategies on how AI and media literacy can be integrated into your current curriculum. No previous GenAI experience is required, but space is limited, so register early to ensure your spot!

What you’ll do:

1. Unpack KQED’s guidelines for productive, ethical, student-focused media creation using GenAI (applicable across content areas) 

  • 2. Get hands-on doing classroom activities, including:

  •      - Analyzing GenAI-created images

  •      - Counteracting bias in AI

  •      - Customizing a GenAI chatbot to provide feedback on students' writing  

  •  

  • 3. Practice vital online source evaluation strategies for content generated by humans or machines 

  •  

  • 4. Build real-life connections with Bay Area educators and KQED staff 

Leave with new tools for your GenAI toolbox and an action plan for confidently meeting this moment in your classroom context.

Continental breakfast, snacks and lunch provided.

*This professional development day is designed for educators of students in grades 4-12. Classroom teachers and teaching assistants, ToSAs, librarians, administrators and youth-centered after-school or out-of-school educators are especially encouraged to attend. While primary grade teachers are welcome, TK-3 classroom content will not be centered. 

Sliding Registration Fee. Because of the size of this event, there is a required registration fee. KQED aims to make it affordable for all teachers by offering a $5-25 sliding scale. Please pay what you feel you can. Our work is funded by grants, donors and community members like yourselves. If you wish to donate directly to KQED Education’s work we are deeply thankful for any additional financial support you wish to give.
