Inspired by the infamous 1936 film that warned American parents that marijuana would transform their wholesome children into sex crazed, jazz loving, violent delinquents, Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney’s musical takes that outrageous fearmongering and cranks it all the way up. The result is a hilarious, irreverent, and completely over the top musical comedy filled with big Broadway style numbers, absurd characters, melodrama, romance, religious fervor, jazz, zombies, and plenty of reefer madness.

At its heart, Reefer Madness is a loving send up of the sensationalism and moral panic of its source material. It is intentionally ridiculous, gloriously campy, and never afraid to go too far. Whether you know the original film or have never heard of it, you do not need any prior knowledge to enjoy the ride.

For this production, Stuart’s Opera House Executive Director Devin Sudman takes the reins as Director and Music Director, bringing together a talented cast, musicians, and creative team to create a production that celebrates everything wonderfully excessive about this cult classic.

So come for the catchy music. Stay for the outrageous comedy. And prepare yourself for a theatrical experience that is loud, weird, wildly inappropriate, and an absolute blast.
