The Revel Puck Circus presents CLOWN by Sir Quentin Blake

A story about hope, home and finding where you belong, told without a single word wasted.

Clown is thrown out with the rubbish. He climbs out of the bin and sets off across town to find a home, not just for himself, but for the friends he left behind. Sir Quentin Blake's beloved picture book tells its story entirely through pictures, and this world premiere stays true to that spirit: the story does not change, though a small amount of language has been added to help the very youngest audiences follow along.

Circus skills do the rest of the storytelling. Aerial performance, acrobatics, physical comedy and Pierrot style clowning bring Clown's journey to life, from the sadness of being thrown away to the joy of finding a new home, giving audiences a felt, embodied way into feelings that words alone might struggle to reach.

This is the first time CLOWN has ever been staged, brought to life by The Revel Puck Circus in their heated Little Top on Walthamstow Town Square this Christmas. Suitable for all ages, 0 to 100.

Know Before You Go

Running time approximately 55 minutes, straight through, no interval.

Allocated seating. Babies in arms (under 2) go free.

Hot and cold drinks and snacks are available on site and can be enjoyed during the performance. Prams are welcome, and there is usually an area for them, staff can advise.

All performances are semi relaxed, audiences are free to move, take a break and re enter with support from our front of house team. Level access throughout, with wheelchair spaces and free carer seats available at every performance. Accessible WC on site. Assistance dogs are welcome. No proof is needed for access bookings, we run this on trust.

There are no loud bangs during the show. Haze is used throughout.

Dedicated SEND performances are also available, with performers introducing themselves at the start, house lights kept up, no flashes or haze, lower music, and audiences free to make noise, stim, or leave and re enter the tent as needed. See the website for SEND performance dates.

If you and your friends or family have booked separately, we'll always try to help you sit together, but this can't be guaranteed, please check in with each other and book as one party where possible.

Ten per cent of tickets for every performance are reserved at £2, no questions asked, for local people who might otherwise find the cost of a trip to the theatre out of reach.
