On Saturday, October 19, the National Thoroughbred League owns the day at Parx Racing, with lineup of five NTL races and Philadelphia’s biggest day of racing outside of the Pennsylvania Derby, the NTL Philadelphia Cup, hosted by Dr. J himself, Philadelphia Stallions co-owner Julius Erving.
What can you expect at Oktober-fast?
- * Meet and greets with a dozen Philadelphia sports legends – including Dr. J of course, as well as Eagles Brian Westbrook, Seth Joyner, Freddie Mitchell, plus many more. And a few New York Giants (Otis Anderson, Howard Cross, Beasley Reece) to make it interesting ahead of their big matchup the next day.
- * Private beer garden, with great brews on tap.
- * The NTL music stage, with Philly legends and other performers.
- * National anthem and surprises from the Drexel pep band
- * “Best in Philly” food offerings
- * Incredible art demonstrations, starring Eric Waugh, the NTL’s Guinness Record-holding artist-in-residence
- * Fan fashion shows: Dress in your Derby best, strut your stuff in front of the crowd and you may find yourself in the actual winner’s circle.
- And of course, the most exciting day of racing anywhere this year. The NTL 10 teams, from the Stallions to New York Knights to the California Shamrocks, facing off in 5 consecutive races, with 3 hours of higher stakes, building excitement, cheering sections and then the big finale. It’s like nothing else in horse racing or sports today.
