Nectar Lounge, the unique indoor/outdoor music venue in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. With an impressive lineup of marquee shows, including a free 2-day shindig in August, Team Nectar has many reasons to celebrate with fans.

Prior to 2004, the old Baby Diaper Service was an unlikely place for crowds of people to dance and cheer. However, longtime friends Tate Rogers and Jed Smithson recognized its potential as the perfect spot to launch their new music venue. From its humble beginnings, serving pizza and hosting local music, to the international tour stop it is today Nectar has evolved into one of Seattle’s favorite independent concert venues.

Today, Nectar is co-owned with talent buyers Andy Palmer & Mario Abata as well as the original General Manager, Ken Stubblefield. In 2019, the Nectar team brought another long-time neighborhood music staple into the fold, High Dive, which will be celebrating its own 20 year anniversary in 2025.

With a focus on bringing eclectic and global music to the stage, Nectar’s one-of-a-kind layout features a wraparound mezzanine and stage-adjacent patio that creates a memorable experience for both patrons and performing artists. Recent upgrades to the venue's sound, lights and video, and the addition of pro lasers make it one of the most vibrant rooms in the city.

Nectar is proud to be a part of Seattle's long and storied music scene. Over the years, Nectar has hosted some legendary artists including Anderson .Paak, Aesop Rock, Greensky Bluegrass, Clozee, Robert Glasper, Janelle Monae, Nipsey Hussle, Victor Wooten, Wiz Khalifa, Snarky Puppy and Bon Iver, while also showcasing top Seattle talent like Polyrhythmics, Clinton Fearon, Macklemore, Critters Buggin, Allen Stone and Presidents of the United States of America. Nectar is also known for its diverse representation of musicians from around the world such as Dakhabrakha, Vieux Farka Toure, Huun Huur Tu, Black Uhuru, Gondwana and many others.

When Pimps of Joytime visionary Brian J started laying down grooves in a New Orleans studio in early 2019, he didn’t exactly have a proper album in mind, so much as capturing the steady flow of ideas that were at his fingertips seemingly every day. Over two years and a global pandemic later, Reachin’ Up is Pimps’ vibrant new full-length album that finds the venerable frontman once again brimming with trademark kaleidoscopic styles and undeniably funky dance music.

An amalgamation of New Orleans and Bay Area funk elements juxtaposed with Brooklyn’s indie DIY ethos, Pimps of Joytime mirror the diversity of their communities and eclectic generational tastes. Traditionally, their music has always ignored established norms and colored outside the lines, and you can always expect the band to deliver an incendiary live show with swaggering confidence and undeniable cool. With Brian J consistently at the helm, the group has evolved through various configurations since bursting on the scene in 2004. They’ve created countless soulful, swaggering grooves across five full length releases, and can be found playing tours and festivals consistently around the world.
