A Night of Honor: A Tribute to Youssou N'Dour and Le Super Étoile de Dakar

featuring Weedie Braimah and the Hands of Time

Tonight, we honor the legends. The music of Youssou N'Dour and Le Super Étoile de Dakar, a band that changed everything. Building on the traditions of the griots and the energy of the djembe, sabar, tama, and bougarabou they constructed a new sound that incorporated the rhythms of Cuba and the sounds that they were hearing from Black American music. The new music was called Mbalax and it would take them from Senegal around the world. The voice of Youssou N'Dour became the voice of a people and launched him to a global stage.

Led by renowned djembe master, composer, and bandleader Weedie Braimah, a Music Box favorite from his exciting shows blending the folkloric with contemporary sounds from jazz and funk. Weedie will be joined by his band The Hands of Time and special guests from Le Super Étoile de Dakar!!!
