The Bacchae
Kaleidoscope takes on Euripides’ The Bacchae, a 2,400-year-old story about a god on the rise, his wild cult, and a king whose lust for control threatens to destroy everything. Adapted by New Orleans playwright and queer historian Quinn L. Bishop, our Bacchae finds the queerness already living in the ancient story while embracing everything we love about Greek theatre: music and movement, rhythm and ritual, and, of course, wine.
Kaleidoscope Theatre Company is a New Orleans nonprofit producing queer theatre past, present, and future. We dig into the queer possibilities of classical works, celebrate the modern queer canon, and make space for new queer stories. We believe theatre should be bold, unexpected, and above all, a place to come together.
Music Box Village is home to over 14 "musical houses" designed and fabricated in collaboration with local, regional and visiting artists. Each installation makes sound in a different way, making this an unusual and immersive space to experiance theatre.
