About Half Gringa
Website | Facebook | Instagram | YouTube | Spotify
Half Gringa, the musical project of Chicago-based singer-songwriter Isabel Olive, blends emotional intelligence, poetic lyricism, and a bilingual perspective into her work. With her first two albums, Gruñona and Force to Reckon, she gained critical acclaim, earning recognition from VICE and The Chicago Reader. Her third album, Cosmovisión, produced by Brian Deck, marks a shift in scope, exploring mythology, mortality, and identity through her signature mix of English and Spanish. Rooted in her Venezuelan and Midwestern upbringing, Olive’s bilingualism is not just stylistic but integral to her exploration of complex themes. Embracing ambiguity and fluidity, her songwriting reflects a diasporic experience that is both deeply personal and universally resonant. Fans of Cass McCombs and Beth Orton will appreciate her philosophical songwriting, but Half Gringa’s unique voice and perspective set Olive’s work apart.
