Built to Spill was formed in 1993 by Doug Martsch and over the years they have toured
extensively and made several albums with a rotating cast of musicians, currently featuring
Teresa Esguerra (Prism Bitch) on drums, and Melanie Radford (Blood Lemon) on bass.

Quasi was formed in 1993 by Janet Weiss and Sam Coomes, in Portland Oregon.  Since then, the band has toured the world (more or less) however many times, and released a number of well-regarded albums on several of the most respected American indie labels, including Up, Touch and Go, Kill Rock Stars, and Sub Pop, and internationally with longtime comrades Domino Records.

Melanie Radford is a bassist, singer and songwriter based in Seattle. Her debut solo album For The Sake Of Stillness is due out June 26th via Jealous Butcher Record. Melanie shares her experience in the Boise music scene and why she shifted her playing from jazz to rock. We learn how For The Sake Of Stillness is both a personal mediation and a need for stillness and grounding. She tells us why field recordings operate as the core of the record and how they operate as a living collaborator. Joe and Melanie discuss her writing and recording process, why bass is necessary to contextualize her songwriting and how the lush ambient presence was achieved. Melanie tells us about her approach to performing the record and we hear a couple new songs.
