Levon Helm Studios Presents: The Helm Family Midnight Ramble - New Year's Eve Special!

with Special Guest Jay Collins & Gravy Train

The Helm Family Midnight Ramble is a musical tribute to the founding songbook of Rock and Roll. Born inside the hallowed walls of Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY, the Midnight Ramble has preserved and furthered Levon Helm's legacy for nearly two decades, playing the iconic music of The Band, and Levon Helm.

The Helm Family Midnight Ramble crosses generational and musical lines, featuring an ever-evolving family of musicians. Amy Helm honors her father's penultimate vision for both Levon Helm Studios and the Midnight Ramble - to create a community for musicians to share their art, and "keep it going."

Jay Collins & Gravy Train

Featuring Jay Collins jumping between tenor sax, vocals, flute, and keyboard, Gravy Train plays Jazz that goes down easy, with plenty of grease. Flavored by Matt Finck on guitar, Adam Cote’ on acoustic bass, and Lavon “Lee” Collins on drums, they cover a lot of ground, and play favorite songs that span Blues, Be-Bop, Modern Jazz, and Soul in equal measures.

Jay Collins was Gregg Allman’s sax player for years, as well as playing and arranging on 2 Grammy-winning albums with the Levon Helm Band (and now with the Helm Family Band), touring with Little Feat, and also with Donald Fagen, Micheal McDonald and Boz Scaggs in the Dukes of September band.

His Jazz creds are well-established from stints and albums with Jacky Terrasson, Andrew Hill, Bobby Sanabria, and LeRoy Vinnegar to name just a few. Jay has performed as a sideman or leader in most of the major Jazz venues in NYC, including Smalls, Blue Note, Smoke, and Birdland.
