KQED Live presents a special music-only edition of inebria me featuring San Cha and acclaimed musician/composer Darian Donovan Thomas. With inebria me, San Cha merges opera’s form, tradition, and opulence with telenovela’s melodrama, honoring and subverting both, and asserting queer Black and Brown voice and presence. Her captivating libretto’s non-linear narrative offers a nuanced exploration of tragedy and love, emerging from personal and artistic influences of rural Mexican immigrant family life, Catholic church choir, Bay Area drag, and cross-border experiences. Her composition fuses ranchera, cumbia, punk, classical, and electro to celebrate the liberating power of ascendant relationships.
