Al Olender presents the 2nd annual Alentine's Day show at the historic Old Dutch Church in Kingston, NY on Friday, February 9, 2024.

From Al:

When I moved to Kingston in 2019, I went to the Old Dutch Church to see a show by myself. I remember seeing piles of people laughing and smiling, grouped together- locals. And I sat in the pew alone in the back and wondered where my place would be in this new city. As someone who moved often as a child and traveled my whole life for work, I didn’t even think having a community would be an option for me.

So last February, when I turned the corner to walk down the aisle of the Old Dutch Church, singing a song I wrote for my town, and seeing groups of people, laughing and smiling who are now MY people- I don’t know what to tell you. You showed up, in feather boas and lace and corsets and pink and red and I could cry thinking about it. Kingston is magic. Holiday times are hard for me (maybe for you too?). Grief slams the door in my face and says I’m not allowed to enjoy the warmth of celebration, but even my mom can attest, this holiday is an open door for the heartbroken and in love and lost and found.

Stayed up late with my best friends (who are my neighbors) for so many nights last year, hanging garland and lights and laughing and crying and practicing because we wanted to do something special for YOU. And we did.

So we’re doing it again. And if you travel to be with us on Alentine’s Day- if you find yourself in the back of one of the pews alone- you’re with us & I love you.

See you on February 9th, and hopefully every February for forever.
