Event Information

Born in St. Petersburg to a Russian mother and Ukrainian father, Anton Derevyanko started playing music at the age of three.

Starting on piano with his grandmother as his teacher, Derevyanko first picked up the saxophone in grade school and quickly found himself obsessed. His obsession carried him through Berklee College of Music where he earned his Bachelors and Masters in Global Jazz Studies, while performing nationally and internationally over the last decade. Music is about more than just the saxophone for Derevyanko—it has given him a platform and a vehicle to give back to causes and communities he finds meaningful, both abroad and at home.

In 2013, Anton played in Providence for the first time with the John Allmark Big Band at Bovi’s Tavern, a place long gone. A decade or so later in Boston, he met bassist Kweku Aggrey who brought Anton into the Providence scene, and into a very special group of people.

Rather than list his awards and accolades Derevyanko invites you to join him as he partners with some of the best musicians in the northeast for a night of music that will speak for itself. Alongside Kweku Aggrey on upright bass, Marcus Grant on drums, and Andrew Wilcox on piano Derevyanko will present a 75 minute set of original works in the sound of Black American Music, (referred to by some as “jazz”), the blues, and his own influences from Russian and Ukrainian music.
