Event Information

Rouge is a scarlet signal. A transmission in crimson. A rush of ruby on the dancefloor. One color, infinite shades – because we’re all red on the inside.

Friday, September 18 in the DTLA Arts District

Rouge isn’t a dress code. It's an invitation. How you interpret it is up to you. Create your look from all the reds, chains, leather, lace, and fringe hidden in your wardrobe. There's no right or wrong. There's only you.

Put on your reddest lipstick, pucker up, and let our resident editorial photographer capture the flaming passion behind your eyes. Arrive early. The first to serve is the first snapped.

THE MUSIC

Behind the decks, we proudly present selectors making noise all over the globe, from the most iconic dance floors defining nightlife in New York City to the spaces that make us move every weekend here at home in LA:

KIM ANH: NY-based DJ and producer Kim Anh has been a staple of the queer dance music scene for over a decade, situating herself firmly as a tastemaker at the intersection of music and fashion. Her production and songwriting blends classic house and disco with a contemporary sensibility, with catchy hooks and edgy, sensual lyrics, described by DJ Mag as "lucid and absorbing, and conveying an assertion and power." With performances across her career on the most important dance floors in the world: Hearsay, Panorama Bar Berlin, Basement, Knockdown Center, à la Folie Paris, Savage Hanoi, Battle Hymn, Glitterbox, Unter, The Carry Nation at Good Room, and more. Kim is a star that will be sure to make you beg for more.

MASHA MAR: Masha Mar is a Serbian-born, Los Angeles-based DJ and producer whose musical vision spans Chicago and New York house, cosmic disco, and left-field rarities. Equally at home on festival stages and in the sweat of an intimate club, she moves between worlds effortlessly. Each set feels like its own journey, never the same trip twice.

SOUL PURPOSE: A dance floor shapeshifter and trusted steward of the LA underground and festival circuit. His sets are a joyride through disco decadence, '90s house, minimal, techno, hard groove, ravey breaks, pop vocals, and the frequent left-field oddity that combines for a sound that's both tender and relentless.

FLABBERGAST: A rising force in Los Angeles' underground electronic scene, Flabbergast is known for unapologetically queer sets that fuse raw energy with transformative intention. Their sound is a relentless mix of pounding acid, tribal drums, and trippy, ethereal textures—crafted to heal the soul while keeping the dance floor in full throttle. Every set is a journey: joyful, vocal, otherworldly, and always made for bodies in motion.

Picture a chic warehouse with three rooms to explore. A massive dance floor, state-of-the-art sound, immersive lighting, and a spacious outdoor courtyard.

WHAT WE STAND FOR:

  • - Representation isn't a talking point, it's our booking policy. Every CATEGORY lineup is 100% femme, BIPOC, gender expansive, and/or queer-identifying.
  •
  • - All are welcome, no matter what CATEGORY you fall into. Unless you’re standing in the way of someone else being exactly who they are.
  •
  • - CATEGORY is committed to running every event with the highest level of professionalism our guests deserve, from our safety practices to our ticketing process, staff, security, lighting, sound, and production standards.

WHAT YOU STAND FOR:

  • - Showing up as your proudest self. Loud or quiet, polished or raw, questioning or certain, every new CATEGORY theme is a blank slate for you to reinvent yourself. Your fashion isn’t a part of the show, it is the show.
  •
  • - Protecting the room. CATEGORY is a queer safe space, and a refuge for everyone in it. See something, say something. Harm reduction personnel are onsite. Ask a CATEGORY staff member in a blue wristband if you need help.
  •
  • - Respecting and celebrating our diversity. We all contribute to the culture in our own ways. Leave your negative opinions about others (and yourself) at home.
  •
  • - Being present. Chit-chat encouraged (but please take it off the dance floor).
