THE MUSIC
Imagine a chic warehouse with three rooms to explore. A massive dance floor, state-of-the-art sound, immersive lighting, and a spacious outdoor courtyard.
Behind the decks, we proudly present three selectors shaping the past, present, and future of LA’s underground house and techno culture:
CHRIS CRUSE: You know it when you hear him play: a chugging, infectious groove from queer dance-floor royalty. The founder of LA’s legendary queer party-turned-record label Spotlight and Club Toilet in Detroit, Chris is a regular at Panorama Bar (BERGHAIN), Basement, Power Dance Club, and Block9 at Glastonbury. His sets celebrate the queer roots of house, techno, and underground dance music.
JULIET MENDOZA: Afro-Latina LA native artist, dancer, DJ, and heartbeat of the underground house music scene, Juliet Mendoza fuses her love of dance with soul-stirring music to create immersive experiences on and off the dance floor. Previously a regular at famed houses like the Arena and Carnival, Juliet's practice broadened beyond performance into a holistic expression of house culture—melding dance, DJ craft, and promotion to shape clubs, festivals, and community spaces.
SOUL PURPOSE: A dance floor shapeshifter and trusted steward of the LA underground and festival circuit. His sets are a joyride through disco decadence, '90s house, minimal, techno, hard groove, ravey breaks, pop vocals, and the frequent left-field oddity that combines for a sound that's both tender and relentless.
If you believe in the power of self-expression, you belong at CATEGORY.
Doors open at 10PM, you bring the rest.

WHAT WE STAND FOR:
-Representation isn't a talking point, it's our booking policy. Every CATEGORY lineup is 100% femme, BIPOC, gender expansive, and/or queer-identifying.
-All are welcome, no matter what CATEGORY you fall into. Unless you’re standing in the way of someone else being exactly who they are.
-CATEGORY is committed to running every event with the highest level of professionalism our guests deserve, from our safety practices to our ticketing process, staff, security, lighting, sound, and production standards.
WHAT YOU STAND FOR:
-Showing up as your proudest self. Loud or quiet, polished or raw, questioning or certain, every new CATEGORY theme is a blank slate for you to reinvent yourself. Your fashion isn’t a part of the show, it is the show.
-Protecting the room. CATEGORY is a queer safe space, and a refuge for everyone in it. See something, say something. Harm reduction personnel are onsite. Ask a CATEGORY staff member in a blue wristband if you need help.
-Respecting and celebrating our diversity. We all contribute to the culture in our own ways. Leave your negative opinions about others (and yourself) at home.
-Being present. Chit-chat encouraged (but please take it off the dance floor).
Each month, discover a new version of yourself through fashion, music, and connection. Every theme, every lineup, every room centers around you, no matter what CATEGORY you fall into.
See you soon, gorgeous.
