Put on your boldest blue eyeliner, catch the light, and let our resident editorial photographer capture the cobalt current behind your eyes. Arrive early. The first to serve is the first snapped.

THE MUSIC

Behind the decks, we proudly present selectors redefining LA nightlife, from the party that built our city's queer underground to the sounds keeping it alive today:

BEARS IN SPACE: Victor Rodriguez and Chris Bowen are the duo behind one of Los Angeles' most enduring queer institutions, throwing their genre-defying party out of Silver Lake's Akbar since 2009. Their sound draws on cosmic disco, deep house, and dancefloor-ready obscurities, built for a crowd that spans every shape, color, size and CATEGORY. After more than a decade, the pair have shared the booth with legends like DJ Harvey, Optimo, and Discodromo, turning a backyard gathering into a summertime home base for LA's LGBTQ+ community. Bears in Space isn't just a party, it's a lineage, and Victor and Chris are bringing that history straight to the CATEGORY dancefloor.

STACY CHRISTINE: An LA-based DJ and producer who lives by one rule: only play the good stuff. Stacy cut her teeth in 2012 under the mentorship of Joshua James, before a chance meeting with Bears in Space's Chris Bowen pulled her deeper into the underground. She's opened for DJ Harvey, Moodymann, Honey Dijon, and Hercules and Love Affair, and played rooms from Knockdown Center in New York to Love International and Battle Hymn.

DJ KERRY: An architect of LA's underground, Kerry has built her name behind the decks at The Basement, Dublab, and as one half of Still Rollin' alongside Stacy Christine. Her sets move across eras and genres without losing the thread, blending the anthemic and familiar with the obscure and otherworldly into one continuous rush. Kerry has shaped some of the city's most iconic nights, including Rice & Beats, Hang Together, and Nitty Gritty, earning a reputation for razor-sharp selection and an encyclopedic knowledge of dance music. She doesn't just play a set, she builds a world, and CATEGORY is next on the map.

WHAT WE STAND FOR:

  • - Representation isn't a talking point, it's our booking policy. Every CATEGORY lineup is 100% femme, BIPOC, gender expansive, and/or queer-identifying.
  •
  • - All are welcome, no matter what CATEGORY you fall into. Unless you’re standing in the way of someone else being exactly who they are.
  •
  • - CATEGORY is committed to running every event with the highest level of professionalism our guests deserve, from our safety practices to our ticketing process, staff, security, lighting, sound, and production standards.

WHAT YOU STAND FOR:

  • - Showing up as your proudest self. Loud or quiet, polished or raw, questioning or certain, every new CATEGORY theme is a blank slate for you to reinvent yourself. Your fashion isn’t a part of the show, it is the show.
  •
  • - Protecting the room. CATEGORY is a queer safe space, and a refuge for everyone in it. See something, say something. Harm reduction personnel are onsite. Ask a CATEGORY staff member in a blue wristband if you need help.
  •
  • - Respecting and celebrating our diversity. We all contribute to the culture in our own ways. Leave your negative opinions about others (and yourself) at home.
  •
  • - Being present. Chit-chat encouraged (but please take it off the dance floor).
