The Michigan Boating Industries Association is a non-profit trade association dedicated to the promotion, protection and advancement of the recreational boating industry in Michigan. The MBIA currently represents more than 350 marine businesses in Michigan and serves as the voice of recreational boating in Michigan.
The MBIA was established in 1958 by marine businessmen dedicated to the betterment of the overall boating industry. Through the years, the MBIA has come to achieve recognition as one of the most productive and progressive marine trade associations in the nation. With Michigan having nearly 1 million registered boats, the MBIA’s role is instrumental to the continued well being of the industry as it relates to promoting the interests of recreation boating by improving industry conditions; enhancing facilities development; protecting our water resources, monitoring legislation and advancing the education of those in the industry.
The MBIA is the premier boat show producer in the state of Michigan. The Progressive Detroit Boat Show held in January at Huntington Place (formerly Cobo) is known as one of the top shows in the country for sales, size and attendance and the Progressive Novi Boat Show held in March at the Suburban Collection Showplace is a strong follow-up show catering to the surrounding suburban areas. The MBIA also produces the Progressive Metro Boat Show in September at Lake St. Clair Metropark. All proceeds from MBIA produced boat shows are returned to the industry through MBIA programs and services.
