Weapons Policy
Firearms, fireworks, flammable liquids or aerosol products, pepper spray, knives, daggers, swords, clubs, maces, other crushing or edged weapons, projectiles, air guns, long bows, crossbows, or any other weapons are prohibited.
Costume Props Policy
Community costumes are a huge part of what makes Blizzard Entertainment events so special. To provide cosplayers clear guidelines for what is allowed at the Irvine Improv, we have updated and clarified the rules and procedures around costumes at the Event. Please read these guidelines in advance to minimize unexpected snags when you get to the show and help us ensure the safety of all our guests.
No functional props or weapons are allowed at the Event. Costume props are subject to security screening prior to admission and must comply with the following:
All costume props must be inspected at the security check-in table. All costume props must conform to state and federal law.
The following guidelines help to dictate whether your prop or weapon could be considered functional:
- Any firearm, even if inoperable at the time of check-in, will not be allowed.
- Costume bows must either contain no bowstring or be strung loosely as to render them unable to fire an arrow
- Any accompanying arrow must have no sharp edges or tips of any kind.
- Costume blunt weapons such as hammers, staves, or wands must be made of appropriate lightweight prop-making material (including but not limited to Worbla or foam) and contain no sharp edges or other elements capable of causing harm.
- Costume swords may not have any sharp edges or tips and must be made of the appropriate lightweight materials mentioned above.
- Other prop items not listed here should conform to good judgment to avoid harming or inconveniencing other attendees and are subject to review and approval by show security.
Costumes must not be wider than 4 feet, longer than 6 feet, or taller than 8 feet. At certain times, due to crowds and safety issues, people in large-sized costumes may be asked to leave the Event.
After your costume props have been checked, they will be tagged by security to designate that your props have been checked. A prop check must be conducted each day prior to entry; a tagged prop from the previous day will not suffice and must be checked again.
Security will escort you to the Check-In Desk for inspection if your costume prop is not tagged properly.
If you do not want to have your costume props inspected or tagged, or if you are not willing to comply with these policies, please do not bring your costume props to the Event.
- Size and mobility of your costume should be taken into consideration, and for purposes of safety your costume should conform to the following limitations while worn:
- Can easily fit/be maneuvered through a standard ADA compliant doorway (the size/type in your home, not an extra-high, convention center double-door)
- Should not significantly inhibit the cosplayer's ability to navigate safely throughout the convention center
Live Streaming Policy
You may only record, livestream, or otherwise broadcast audio or video from the Event for personal non-commercial purposes (unless otherwise authorized by Blizzard in writing), and any such activity may only be facilitated via handheld phones, tablets, and certain video cameras only.
Cancellation Policy
Blizzard Entertainment reserves the right to cancel or postpone the Event, or any part of the Event, on limited or no notice in Blizzard Entertainment sole discretion. In the event of a cancellation or postponement of the Event, Blizzard Entertainment shall not be responsible or liable for any costs, damages, fees, expenses, or other compensation associated with the Event, unless otherwise required by law.
