Greg Schochet & Little America: Record Release Day - Live at Lulu's Downtown
------
Thirty years into a performing and recording career in Colorado, Greg Schochet continues to hone his craft and fine-tune a truly distinctive musical voice.
Long regarded as a first-call guitar and mandolin player — and a veteran of many successful bands — Greg is set to release his second solo recording this May. Wyoming In the Windshield, recorded with his stellar group Little America, marks a creative leap forward for the five-piece Western swing and country outfit.
The new collection features songs rich with personal meaning and nuance. The title reflects Greg’s many drives to his family’s home in southern Idaho — especially while helping care for his mother during the pandemic — as well as decades of touring across the American West. At the same time, the record tips its hat to the wit and wordplay long embedded in Western music tradition, with tracks like I’m Not a Cowboy, But I Play One on Guitar blending tongue-in-cheek honky-tonk pathos with fiery picking and playful swagger.
Little America features Greg on acoustic and archtop guitars, joined by Bret Billings on pedal steel and harmonica, Jeremy Mohney on saxophone, Conner Hollingsworth on upright bass, and Damon Smith on drums. Together, they represent some of the most accomplished players and vocalists on Colorado’s Front Range.
With a sound that harkens back to Colorado’s 1970s and ’80s country swing heyday, Wyoming In the Windshield captures both the tradition and forward momentum of a seasoned songwriter and bandleader still pushing his artistry to new heights.
