“I think we’re in Spandex now!”  Tiffany, the iconic 80s pop queen whose hits “I think we’re alone now” and “Could’ve Been,” became the soundtrack of our lives, leads an all-star cast in the new aerobics-based musical, Spandex.  In her NYC theater debut, Tiffany will play Linda Gufstafson, a housewife who befriends a former gymnastics prodigy-turned aerobics instructor, Lorraine Stubenski (Sims Lamason).  Lorraine teaches a class at Bronze Bodies Gym, run by the menacing and poorly mulleted Trip Allen.  The show also stars Catherine Ashmore Bradley (Harry Potter on Broadway, Nickelodeon’s The Really Loud House) as Lorraine’s protege, Dori Jenson.  Together, the three will take on Trip Allen in the only place he might be vulnerable: the 1988 Crystal Light Aerobic Championship, hosted by Alan Thicke!   Spandex has been developed in productions in Minneapolis, New York City, with Crunch Fitness, who again will partner, and now returns to NYC with the teen jean queen. 

Written by award-winning composers Daniel F. Levin (Richard Rodgers Award) and Julian Blackmore (Academia Nuts, host at Café Wha?), directed and choreographed by Liz Piccoli (Lysistrata Jones) with sound design by Kai Harada (two-time Tony winner for Ragtime and The Band’s Visit), Spandex honors the world’s greatest aerobic athletes and the outfits they donned.  Half Karate-Kid underdog story, half “A Chorus Line,” and two-thirds viral video that inspired a nation, Spandex is much more than the sum of its parts.
