Event Information

The Infinite Wrench is a barrage of 30 short plays the cast attempts to perform within a single hour in a race against the clock. Each play offers something different, be it funny, profound, elegant, disgusting, topical, irrelevant, terrifying, or even a dance or a song. All are truthful and tackle the here-and-now, inspired by the lived experiences of the performers. With new plays every week, The Infinite Wrench is the Neo-Futurists’ ongoing and ever-changing attempt to shift the conventions of live performance and speak to audiences, including those unreached or unmoved by traditional theater.

At the end of every show, the audience will roll a die on stage. The cast will add the rolls from each weekend together to determine how many plays to remove from that selection of 30 plays. They will then write, pitch, and perform new work the very next week, welcoming chance, change, and chaos into the creative process. Come to The Infinite Wrench next month, and the show could be completely different with all new plays and cast members. To date, our 100+ ensemble members, past and present, have written and produced over 7,750 world premiere plays, and are set to complete their 1,050th week of performances this year.

The New York Neo-Futurists were founded in 2004 by a group of NYC performers trained by the original Neo-Futurist company in Chicago. After residencies at venues including the Brooklyn Lyceum, HERE, Cherry Lane, The Kraine, Second City NY, and The Brooklyn Improv, The Asylum is now the home of this critically-acclaimed show. The New York Neo-Futurists have been a stalwart presence in the Off-Off Broadway community since their inception and have won numerous Innovative Theatre Awards, earned multiple Drama Desk Nominations, and were honored at The 2018 Fresh Fruit Festival Awards with the Honeyberry Award for Unrecognized Service to the LGBT Community.
