He began spinning new wave records in Philadelphia’s underground clubs during the genre’s formative years in the 1980s, helping define the city’s alternative nightlife at venues like The Love Club, The Kennel Club, Omni’s, and even Danceteria in New York City. His professional career launched in 1982 as co-founder and general manager of Au Courant Newsmagazine, Philadelphia’s gay arts and culture paper. In 1988, he joined WXPN-FM, where over the past 35 years he has served in numerous roles, including producing Kids Corner, the longest-running daily radio show for kids in the U.S., and hosting OutSounds since 1995, celebrating LGBTQ+ artists from around the world.
Since 2003, he has continued shaping Philadelphia’s music and nightlife by introducing new wave to a new generation through his monthly dance party Sex Dwarf and his long-running WXPN program Land of the Lost, airing every Friday night. His work has earned widespread recognition, including multiple “Best DJ in Philadelphia” honors, with Sex Dwarf also named the city’s best dance party. He has shared stages with iconic artists such as The Psychedelic Furs, OMD, The B-52s, Gang of Four, and many more, and was recently named Best Radio Personality in Philadelphia—an affirmation of a career defined by passion, influence, and deep roots in music culture.
