By June 30, 2014 Music No Comments

Here at Tixr, we are constantly listening to music, reading about music, watching music, breathing music, and even smelling music (it’s possible). To put it simply, we just love music! So much that we thought we would write about all the great things (and not so great things) that happened in music for the past week. Think of it as your ticket to all your favorite album releases, concert tours, award shows, news and more. Check out the first Weekly Ticket below!

Rising Star Debuts on ABC

Weekly TicketOn Sunday, June 22, ABC’s Rising Star officially joined The Voice and American Idol (Yes, it’s still around) as the newest televised singing competition! It’s safe to say the world is getting a little bored with those mentioned above, so Rising Star is here to offer a new twist on these singing competition shows. It allows viewers to vote in real-time through an app to keep a contestant on the live program. While the viewers at home are considered the “judges”, the expert panelists (Brad Paisley, Josh Groban, Kesha and Ludacris) also influence the vote. We’ve been tuning in and it’s awesome! Stay tuned.

Ed Sheeran Releases New Album ‘X’

Weekly TicketFINALLY. Ed Sheeran’s brand-spankin’ new album X, aka ‘Multiply’, has been released! Ginger Jesus never fails to amaze us with his musical talents. He sings. He plays the guitar. He has red hair. He produces. He raps. He plays the piano. He also has red hair. He’s basically the coolest cat in the game right now. Our favorite songs are ‘Don’t’, ‘Tenerife Sea’, and ‘Thinking Out Loud’. Is that a #1 on Billboard we smell in the oven? Yes, it is. Buy it. Stream it. Gift it. Live it.

Lana Del Rey’s ‘Ultraviolence’ Debuts at #1 on Billboard

Weekly TicketSpeaking of #1 albums, Lana Del Rey was graced with her first #1 album on the Billboard charts this week! ‘Ultraviolence’ went on to sell 182,000 copies in its first week on the streets. Her arrival is the largest sales week for a female artist since the end of December! With barely any promotion (except a cool tweet from pal Kanye West), Ultraviolence is doing great. In other news, our buddy Sam Smith finished at #2 on the charts with In The Lonely Hour. Congrats to you too, Sam!

Ariana Grande Is Bringing Back TRL

Weekly TicketAs if she wasn’t already perfect, Ariana Grande is making our teenage dreams come true by reviving MTV’s ‘TRL’ for one day only! Dubbed as ‘Total Ariana Live’ the program will air live on July 2 at 7 pm in front of a live studio audience! The now 21-year-old (Happy belated Ari!) is slated to perform “Problem” and debut her upcoming single “Break Free”! MTV also promises there will be a surprise announcement. WE LOVE SURPRISES! Keep doing your thing, baby girl. We can’t wait for your album!

5-Year Anniversary of Michael Jackson’s Death

Weekly TicketThe music world isn’t always rainbows and butterflies. This week proves that as we were reminded that five years ago, we lost Pop icon, Michael Jackson. His music and dance moves paved the way for every artist today, and we truly miss him. Rest in peace, MJ.

Jay Z and Beyoncé Launch Highly Anticipated ‘On The Run’ Tour in Miami

Weekly TicketOn a lighter note, the King and Queen of Hip-Hop opened up their joint tour on Wednesday, June 25 in Miami. Before the show started, a sign that read “This is not real life” was displayed. This was exactly true. No one was prepared for the amazing-ness set to be bestowed upon them. After reading reviews, we don’t even know if we can go anymore. It’s just that great. We don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just say there were wedding photos, a zillion costume changes, two stages, and a 43-song setlist. Speaking of setlists, did you read our predictions for the tour? Check it out here.
