6 New Artists To Catch At Firefly Music Festival

Another week another music festival! The Firefly Music Festival will make its return to The Woodlands in Dover, Delaware tomorrow and run through Sunday, June 22! Commonly dubbed “The East Coast Coachella,” this event has grown over three years to now span four days. Over 100 performers are set to keep the seven festival stages buzzing as thousands of attendees occupy 105 acres of pure creativity. It may be one of the smallest states in America, but Delaware is definitely making its imprint on the music world with Firefly.

Firefly’s headliners are pretty impressive, but it’s the new artists that we have found interest in lately. Don’t get us wrong, we LOVE the Foo Fighters, Outkast, and Imagine Dragons just as much as everyone else, but we’ve been craving some new blood too. We live in a society where an artist can literally go from being unknown one day to the biggest star on the planet the next. Praise the Lorde! That’s why we put together a list of the 6 New Artists To Catch At Firefly! You never know, you could be a firsthand witness to the next big thing! Check it out:

6. Ghost Beach

Who doesn’t love “Tropical Grit-Pop?” Here’s a better question: Who even knows what “Tropical Grit-Pop” is? Whether you answered yes or no, you need to check out Ghost Beach to find out. This New York duo’s self-described sound resembles the baby of Peter Gabriel and Passion Pit. Need we say more? You can check them out Friday on The Backyard Stage at 2:15 pm.

5. Sky Ferreira

Although she’s been contributing to the music scene for a few years, Sky Ferreira’s debut album Night Time, My Time was just released in October. In fact, Rolling Stone deemed it the fifth-best debut album of 2013! Her voice is refreshing with its synth sounds, but her words are dark and grungy. Weren’t able to catch her epic laser-esque set on Miley Cyrus’ Bangerz Tour? Don’t worry because she plays The Backyard Stage at 3:45 pm this Friday!

4. Cash Cash

Cash Cash“Don’t call it a comeback! They’ve been here for years!” you yell. You, my friend, are correct. However, the band has recently gained exposure from their new sound and complete change of genre. They used to tour with pop-punk bands like Metro Station, Cobra Starship, and All Time Low, but now they have stepped into the EDM spotlight and associated themselves with artists such as Nicky Romero and Hardwell. They are on the verge of a very successful rebrand and we respect that. Check out their new sound on The Porch at 1:10 am on Friday!

3. KONGOS

They’ve already conquered South Africa, but now the four Kongos brothers, known as KONGOS, have their eyes set on the US! Chances are you’ve heard their epic song ‘Come with Me Now’ in commercials and on the radio. Known for its crazy big beat sound, this song got the band noticed and ultimately signed to Epic Records in January 2014. We’re predicting that they will become the next Kings of Leon before you know it! Firefly thinks so too as they are set to play the main stage at 1:30 pm on Friday!

2. Twenty One Pilots

Twenty One Pilots, more commonly known as twenty one pilots, are a band that cannot be defined by a genre. In fact, in their fans’ quest to categorize them, they deemed the duo as “Schizophrenic Pop.” Poetry, rap, drums, keyboards, synths, ski-masks, and the occasional ukulele are what make this act so unique in today’s music scene. In fact, 2014 saw the debut of their mainstream success and announcement of a world tour! It is obvious that their weirdness is here to stay. Join them as they tear up the main stage on Saturday at 2 pm!

1. Martin Garrix

Just over a month after celebrating his 18th birthday, Dutch DJ Martix Garrix tops our list of the 6 New Artists To Catch At Firefly! His hit ‘Animals’ has become an international EDM anthem, and the momentum is not slowing down anytime soon. He is known for giving off intense energy during his sets, and we’re sure Firefly will be no exception! Garrix credits Tiësto with sparking his interest in becoming a DJ, and we definitely see him achieving his mentor’s status very soon. Gefeliciteerd, Martin! He plays The Porch on Sunday at 7:25 pm!
