Festival season is rapidly approaching, which means it’s time for Coachella 2015 lineup predictions again. We’ve compiled a list based on artist tour dates, album releases, and our hopes and dreams.
So here it is in all of its glory: our preliminary Coachella 2015 lineup prediction!
1. David Guetta
David Guetta performed at Coachella in 2012 and hasn’t been back for 2 years. With the release of his new album in late November he’s going to be touring non-stop in 2015 so why not make Coachella one of these stops?
Bonus: When he performed in 2012 he brought with him surprise guest Usher and everybody loves a good surprise guest.
Alt-J released their much anticipated follow up album in 2014 called ‘This is All Yours’. They played at Coachella in 2013 and Coachella usually likes to pull from their pool of previous performers. Their last reported tour date puts them in New York City on March 30th, which is just a short plane ride to the Coachella Valley. Coincidence? I think not.
Skrillex released a new album, Recess, in March and he’s been touring like a madman to promote it. In 2014 he played a multitude of different music festivals, including ULTRA, Austin City Limits, and the Governor’s Ball to name a few. He finishes the international leg of his tour at the end of December and returns to the United States after that. His last reported tour dates put him in Miami in mid-February so I’m sure he wouldn’t mind making a quick trip to Indio.
4. Sam Smith
2014 was the year of Sam Smith. He performed at countless award shows, shut down Austin City Limits, and is selling out arenas like it’s his job (it kind of is). All of his upcoming shows are in the U.S. and Canada so our guess is that he won’t be too far from the Coachella Valley when it comes time. If this prediction comes true look for me in the crowd. I’ll be the one sobbing uncontrollably.
Bonus: Maybe if Sam Smith plays he can bring along his good friend Disclosure for some ‘Latch’ action?
Avicii was scheduled to play ULTRA Music Festival and TomorrowWorld in 2014 but had to cancel on account of his blocked gall bladder. This same affliction forced him to cancel all of his 2014 tour dates and postpone them until 2015. It’s been 3 months since the gallbladder incident of 2014, it’s unblocked, and I’m guessing he’s going to want redemption for all of the cancelled dates.
Kygo performed at ULTRA Music Festival and took Avicii’s place at TomorrowWorld in 2014 (such a good friend). He’s been at all of the biggest music festivals of 2014 so why not Coachella? He hasn’t reported any of his tour dates for 2015 but I have a feeling he will take his rightful place in the Sahara tent when Coachella comes around.
7. Arctic Monkeys
The Arctic Monkeys went a little overboard on festivals this year. They played everything from Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza to Pinkpop Music Festival in the Netherlands in 2014 so I don’t think they would miss a chance to put another festival notch in their belt. They haven’t reported any tour dates past the month of November so there’s no way to know for sure where they will be come Coachella time but they haven’t missed a big music festival yet and we don’t expect them to.
8. Jack White
Jack White has never played Coachella as a solo artist. He played with the Raconteurs in 2010, the Dead Weather in 2008, and the White Stripes in 2003 but hasn’t been back to the Coachella Valley since. Since then he’s developed a pretty impressive solo career and released a new album, Lazaretto, in 2014. His early 2015 tour dates put him back in the United States so how could he pass up a chance to headline a music festival in 100 degree weather? It’s your time, Jack.
If the U2 album, Joshua Tree, taught me anything it’s that Bono “still hasn’t found what he’s looking for” but the problem has been solved. He’s been looking for a headlining spot at Coachella. Silly Bono. He recently told a reporter for the Desert Sun that he would “like an opportunity” to play Coachella. I don’t know who would pass up an opportunity to have U2 headline their music festival so here’s to hoping.
Eminem has performed at more music festivals than normal this year. He performed at Austin City Limits, Squamish Valley Music Festival, and Music Midtown Festival in 2014. He’s bound to be touring and performing in 2015 to promote the drop of his new album, Shady XV, scheduled for November 24th. Will the Real Slim Shady please headline Coachella?
So there you have it, folks. These are our predictions for the Coachella 2015 Lineup. May the odds be ever in our favor.
