You’ll want to read this before you find yourself saying “Best. Summer. EVER!” Hold onto your horses, because the season has just OFFICIALLY begun! Believe it or not, Saturday June 21st marked the beginning of summer 2014, and that means the party is only getting started. Is it just us, or does the best music seem to find its way onto our favorite radio stations during these next few months? Every year, we wait for summer albums to bring us that heat-packed anthem. Carly Rae Jepsen took over 2012 with ‘Call Me Maybe,’ while Robin Thicke dominated 2013 with ‘Blurred Lines.’ It’s like music + summer just go together like chang chang changitty chang shoobop.
So, before prematurely exclaim “oh-myyy-god. This is my song!” this summer, check out our list of ‘7 Summer Albums To Look Out For.’ You never know, they might just be the proud parents to some beautiful #1 songs. Enjoy!
#7 – 5 Seconds of Summer, Self-Titled
Ok. Let’s just let out our inner 13-year-old girl right off the bat. How could we not include 5 Seconds of SUMMER on this list? This Australian boy-band has already made headlines with their hit ‘She Looks So Perfect,’ which makes us extra excited for their debut album. In fact, there’s a rumor going around that the song has made American Apparel’s underwear sales go up by 10%! Now, how’s that for the power of music! You can catch the band all summer long on One Direction’s Take Me Home stadium tour. Their self-titled album drops June 27.
#6 – Sia, 1000 Forms of Fear
Seriously, Sia has had us swinging from the ‘Chandelier’ ever since the song was released. This Aussie has a serious resume; she has collaborated with Eminem, Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Celine Dion, and many other marvelous artists in the past. If you aren’t impressed enough, she also co-wrote “Titanium” with David Guetta and “Wild Ones” with rapper Flo Rida, both featured on Billboard Hot 100’s top ten hits. We’re so excited for an entire album full of Sia’s intense vocals and powerful words. Look for 1000 Forms of Fear to make its mark on July 8.
#5 – Robin Thicke, Paula
It’s pretty much a fact that Robin Thicke was the king of the summer in 2013. You best believe that when he said “everybody get up,” the pop masses did as they were told. Always. Recently, Thicke has been going through a very public separation from wife Paula Patton. So, what does a man do to win his woman back? He dedicates an entire 14-song album to her. Hence, the reason he named his new album Paula. Yes, we said hence. Will Paula take him back? Will true love conquer all? Find out July 1st! And…we’ll back after the break.
#4 – Steve Aoki, Neon Future
Dance music has come a long way, so whenever an EDM artist announces a full album, a fairy gets its wings. As if we weren’t ecstatic already, Steve Aoki promises guest appearances from Waka Flocka Flame, Fall Out Boy, Bonnie McKee, Empire Of The Sun, and more on Neon Future! Supposedly, the album is the first of a two-part release, with the second half expected to hit airwaves sometime in 2015. More Aoki means more cake throwing, more champagne spraying, and more raft riding. The world becomes a better place on August 12th.
#3 – BANKS, Goddess
#2 – Ed Sheeran, X
Let’s be honest. Who doesn’t love a redhead? The world has been waiting for new music from Ed Sheeran for a couple years now, and yesterday our patience was rewarded. He has proved he is so much more than Taylor Swift’s biffle, and managed to carve a special place in the our hearts with his beautiful music. He is truly one of the best singer/songwriters of our generation, and the release of X only reminds us of that. Also known as Multiply, some standout tracks on the album already include ‘Sing’ and ‘Don’t.’ Sheerios, rejoice!
#1 – Ariana Grande, TBA
Our #1 album doesn’t have a name, or even a definite release date yet. All we know is that Ariana Grande is set to release an album sometime in late August or early September. The world is witnessing the birth of a star, and our excitement is through the roof. Right now, Grande’s ‘Problem (featuring Iggy Azalea)’ IS the song of the summer. There is no debate. Whether her album comes out before the summer is officially over, she has still emerged on top. There is no doubt in our minds that this album, whatever it may be called, will showcase her vocal ability like never before. Congratulations on your success, Ariana. This is only the beginning.
