Earlier this month, we told you all about Lollapalooza’s revolutionary technology that allows attendees to pay for things with the flick of a wrist. Well, the time has come and the massive music festival is set to hit Chicago’s Grant Park this week from August 1-3! Along with this giant event comes a giant lineup that consists of today’s hottest artists as well as some newcomers. Joining festival staples such as Outkast, Kings of Leon, Lorde, and Skrillex are our 10 Lollapalooza 2014 artists you can’t miss! We absolutely love the entire lineup, but if we had to pick just 10, then these would be it! Check them out below.
10 – Phantogram
Kicking off our list is an electronic rock duo from Greenwhich, New York: Phantogram. Self described as “street beat, psych pop,” Phantogram’s Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel have said their fantastical name was inspired by an optical illusion. Their sound consists of a ton of different rhythms, guitars, keyboards, killer vocals, and echoes. Their newest album ‘Voices’ was released in February 2014 through Republic Records and sounds unlike anything else we have heard out there. (And was definitely on repeat in our office for a long time.) Out of all the Lollapalooza 2014 artists, you should definitely make it a priority to check them out!
9 – Krewella
Next up are Jahan Yousaf, Yasmine Yousaf, and Kristopher ‘Rain Man’ Trindl, also known as EDM sensation, Krewella. Call them house, dubstep, hardstyle, but do not call them boring. This dance trio definitely knows how to make the beat drop when it comes to the Vegas clubs, so we’re especially excited to see how they tear up the festival scene. They are definitely a must-see at Lollapalooza this weekend. If you aren’t attending this year, be sure to check them out as they make their club rounds this Summer. In fact, they’ll be hitting up Haze in Vegas on Labor Day Weekend. Click here to buy tickets!
8 – Chvrches
We’re going to be honest. Until we googled how to properly pronounce this band’s name, we were left saying Ch-ver-ches for the longest time. Now, with much more knowledge, we can proudly say that we are huge fans of CHVRCHES, pronounced simply as “Churches”. This synth-pop band has played festivals such as Coachella, Bonnaroo, Firefly, SXSW, and many others, so they are no stranger to the scene. We’re glad to see them growing their fandom by playing more and more festivals. They’ve definitely won our hearts! So, don’t forget to go to CHVRCH(es) this weekend!
7 – Lykke Li
The next artist to make our list is Lykke Li. Not sure how to pronounce her name either? It’s easy! Just read it as the word “likely.” Often compared to BANKS, Sia, and Charli XCX, Lykke Li has truly created her own indie pop sound. This Swedish singer-songwriter often uses many instruments as well as synthesizers in her songs. If you’ve never heard of her, then listen to ‘Gunshot’ because then it will all come back to you. Trust us on this one and be sure to catch her set at Lolla.
6 – GTA
Ok, so if you haven’t heard ‘Hard House’ yet by GTA than you are truly missing out. The beat is so INSANE that we have caught ourselves listening to it five times in a row. It’s sick. We can’t even imagine what the festival crowd is going to look like when the beat drops, and drops, and then drops again. Their music is a perfect blend of house and hip-hop, and we’re definitely addicted. They are also one of the latest duos to add to the growing list of EDM artists getting signed to major labels. They recently signed with Warner Bros. Records. We love the respect that the industry has for EDM. Congrats!
5 – Nas
How do you throw a music festival these days without including at least one veteran rapper? That’s easy. You just don’t. That’s why we think it was an amazing idea to have Nas as one of the Lollapalooza 2014 artists to represent for 90’s rap. Selling over 25 million albums worldwide, Nas is arguably one of the greatest rappers of all time. His career has spanned over 20 years and we don’t see him going anywhere anytime soon. Lately he’s been hitting up music festivals all over the world, and we hope he continues. You’re sure to know the words to at least a couple of his songs, so make it a point to enjoy some of his good music this weekend at Lollapalooza.
4 – Sebastian Ingrosso
Taking a short break from his partnership with Axwell, also known as Axwell /\ Ingrosso, Sebastian Ingrosso is set to play Lollapalooza this week with a solo set. Originally a member of Swedish House Mafia, Ingrosso has stayed true to his EDM roots, but has added a personal touch on his mixes recently. Festival attendees usually flock to see him spin, and Lollapalooza heads will be no different. Expect him to play his own stuff, collaborations with Axwell, some Swedish House Mafia classics, and maybe even debut new music. Get ready. It’s going to be epic.
3 – Iggy Azalea
It’s Iggy Iggs! When you think of music festivals, Iggy Azalea may not be the first artist that comes to mind—and that’s exactly why were so excited for her to play Lollapalooza. She has truly been the Queen of the Summer with hits such as ‘Fancy’, ‘Black Widow’, and Ariana Grande’s ‘Problem’. She’s everywhere and we love it. Iggy’s been working her way up for some time now, and we’re happy everything is finally going smoothly for her. Her performance at Lolla will definitely add some diversity to the group, being that she is the only prominent female rapper on the bill. We can’t wait to get ‘Fancy’ with you, Iggy.
2 – Arctic Monkeys
Arctic Monkeys are just one of those bands that you need to listen to through your headphones, and then go see live. Get what were saying? Well, if you don’t, then go listen to them. And then go see them live. You have a few days to do so. Ready. Set. Go!
1 – Eminem
Will the real Slim Shady please stand up? Yes, it’s true. The man, the myth, the legend will grace the Lollapalooza festival grounds this weekend, and we are geeking out. Seriously, when does Eminem tour? NEVER. Besides a few ‘The Monster’ dates with Rihanna here and there this summer in Detroit, NYC, and LA, it’s rare that Em plays shows inside the USA. We don’t understand why, but when he commits to random festival appearances, it’s not even a question of catching his set. Even if you’re not a fan of rap music, you must get to that stage when he plays. You have to. YOU JUST HAVE TO!
